Tinolang Manok

Hi. I'm going to show you an easy way to make show you how to make tinolang manok, a soup that is hearty, healthy, and tasty. Made of chicken, green papaya, fresh spinach, and a ginger-flavored broth, it is the ultimate comfort food for most Filipinos.

You will need:

  • 2 kilos chicken (Any parts, breast, thigh, or wings)
  • 1 Cup of malunggay leaves
  • 1 cup hot pepper leaves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 Piece unripe papaya
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 cube of knorr chicken powder
  • 1 Onion Bulb (White or Red)
  • 4 Cloves of Garlic
  • 3 Thumbs of ginger
  • 2 Tablespoon of fish sauce
  • 3 Tablespoon of vegetable oil

How to cook:

  1. Heat the oil in a pot.
  2. Sauté the garlic, onion, and ginger.
  3. Add ground black pepper.
  4. When the onion starts to get soft, add the chicken and cook it for 5 minutes or until it turns light brown.
  5. Pour in the water and let it boil.
  6. Cover, and then set the heat to low and boil for 40 minutes.
  7. Add knorr chicken cube and chayote or papaya stir, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Add malunggay and hot pepper leaves and in the pot pour fish sauce and continue to cook for 2 minutes.
  9. When it’s cooked transfer it to a serving bowl and serve it with hot rice.
