Pancit Guisado

Hi. I'm going to show you an easy way to make show you how to make Pancit Guisado.

Pancit in general terms is referring to a various traditional noodle dishes in Filipino cuisine. There are numerous types of pancit, often named based on the noodles used, method of cooking, place of origin, or the ingredients. Most pancit dishes are characteristically served with calamansi.

Pancit guisado means sautéed, pancit guisado is the generic term for a wide array of dry(as opposed to noodle soup) noodle dishes cooked by stir-frying the noodles with sautéd aromatics, meat, seafood, and vegetables.

You will need:

  • 1.1 lbs (500 g) package of dried rice noodles,
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of vegetable oil,
  • 1 onion bulb (white or red),
  • 3 cloves of garlic,
  • 2 cups (300 g) of diced cooked chicken breast meat,
  • 1 small head of cabbage (1 lb / 500 g),
  • 4 carrots (10 oz / 300 g total),
  • ½ cup (120 ml) of soy sauce,
  • and 2 lemons for garnish.

How to cook:

  1. Heat the oil in a pot.
  2. Sauté the garlic, onion, and ginger.
  3. Add ground black pepper.
  4. When the onion starts to get soft, add the chicken and cook it for 5 minutes or until it turns light brown.
  5. Pour in the water and let it boil.
  6. Cover, and then set the heat to low and boil for 40 minutes.
  7. Add knorr chicken cube and chayote or papaya stir, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Add malunggay and hot pepper leaves and in the pot pour fish sauce and continue to cook for 2 minutes.
  9. When it’s cooked transfer it to a serving bowl and serve it with hot rice.
